Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to Driver Education. The following letter contains the information to register for the upcoming session of Driver Education at Lisbon Public Schools. In order to meet the requirements for the driver and traffic safety education program in the state of North Dakota, students are required to have 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. Any student that misses class will not meet those requirements and would not be eligible for successful completion of the course.
Please fill out the attached form and return to the Middle School or High School office by May 9th so we can get an accurate count of students participating. Checks should be brought to Mr. Moss on the first day of the classroom session.
Classroom Session Dates: May 27th to May 31st (Behind-the-Wheel driving time will be assigned during the classroom session)
Where: Class will be held in Mr. Moss’ classroom in the High School (Room 123). Students can be dropped off in the parking lot between the High School and Armory and enter through door H4.
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (Lunch Break @ 12:00 p.m.)
Fee: $150 (Make checks payable to Lisbon Public Schools and bring to Mr. Moss on the first day of the classroom session. Students taking the course for a second time or are out-of-district will be charged a fee of $400)
Upon completion of both the classroom and the behind-the-wheel sessions, successful students will need to pick up one of the following certificates from the High School office:
Certificate of Completion: Confirms that the student has successfully completed the driver and traffic safety education program course and will be eligible to have the ND Class D road test waived. This is an official document that must be presented to the driver examiner at the time of licensure. A Certificate of Completion is not guaranteed just by enrolling in Driver Education. Students will need to successfully demonstrate all of the skills required on a final driving test in order to be considered.
Certificate of Training: Confirms that the student has completed the driver and traffic safety education program course but will still need to make an appointment with the NDDOT for a ND Class D road test to determine licensure. This is an official document that must be presented to the driver examiner at the time of the road test to determine licensure.
I look forward to working with your son/daughter and will work hard to help them develop the skills to be a safe and competent driver. This is an exciting time for them, but also one that can come with a lot of nerves and anxiety. I encourage you to help by providing as much practice with them in various driving situations as possible. If you have any question or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (701) 308-0689 or mark.moss@k12.nd.us.
Sincerely,
Mark Moss
